Performance Testing from the Cloud
February 23, 2009 – 10:40 pmI’ve seen a lot of activity lately about using “the cloud” for performance testing. Here’s the current run-down of load testing options “from the cloud:”
Open Source
- Pylot – Web Load Testing from Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
- Grinder In The Cloud – A cloud based load testing environment
- Load Testing From The Cloud (JMeter)
Pay to play
It’s exciting to see so many new options cropping up. I would not be surprised to see some of the other smaller players in the performance testing space start offering similar services this year, while the larger (HP, Borland) companies will be unable to move quickly enough away from their existing “consulting services.” The open source options appear to be well behind the current commercial offerings, but could be viable options if you’re willing to put in the time.

Thanks for noticing us
If you’re interested in a more in-depth evaluation of our service with high levels of load, I’d be happy to provide it. We love feedback from experts on performance and testing.

Hi,
thanks for the reference but you got the wrong AMI, the Agent only. Please refer to http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/connect/entry.jspa?externalID=2055 to get the Controller or to http://www.jk-itberatung.de/grinder/GrinderInTheCloud.pdf to get your hands on the documentation.
Regards,
Jörg

disclosed: I am the HP LoadRunner Product Manager.
I think that our Software-as-a-Service Performance Testing solutions at HP are very well suited for anyone, and the technology we use is built on the core LoadRunner components.
It’s important for us to take a great testing tool like LoadRunner and deliver with more self-service, on-demand models…that would appeal to developers or agile testing teams.
